Bio

Band

Snow began in 2004 when three friends from a small town in Leeds (Gavin Turner, James Davies and Lee Richardson) decided to explore music collectively. Tracks like 'Moments of Recognition' were born from these jams and set up the direction of Snow's unique sound. At the time Gav and Davies were the guitarists and Lee played bass. Each member had equal say in the creative process.
It wasn't until around a year later that the founding members of Snow discovered that their good friend Matthew Murphy had natural talent for drumming. Practices began and the band was finally whole.

Later it became apparent that something in Snow had to change for the band to continue progressing and James Davies left the band for the best of everyone's interest. His early input into the writing process was invaluable.

Lee then moved from 5 string bass to 6 string guitar and another good friend of the band, Matthew Roundell, was brought in on the bass. His skills for performing were honed in his previous thrash/hardcore band Olvidar and thus he brought an extra drive and charisma to the group.

Songs were quickly written and rough home demos recorded. Soon enough Snow had begun their venture into playing live.

Unfortunately, due to a few different factors, Matt Roundell's time with snow came to a mutual end in October 2008. Nothing but the best of wishes to Matt Roundell in regards to his upcoming projects and future endeavours. The bass guitar is now being played by Mark Tideswell, a good friend who has always supported the band and shares the same objectives both ideologically and musically.

This summer Snow took their earlier material into the studio and with the help of Johnny Teanby, pieced together 4 tracks that chronicle the early compositions of the band. These tracks are to be used on Snow's first EP entitled 'The Coldest Path' which has been mastered by Brooke Johnson of The Axis of Perdition. This release shall be available in the near future.

Snow's aim is to write meaningful songs from tasteful perspectives. They are a band who want to be 'heavy' but want to make you think. Most importantly though Snow is just about celebrating music, playing shows and having fun!

Gav

For the 21 years I've been alive, I feel like I've been here alot longer. The way I think I understand people and the way things work is debatable, but I have a lot of faith in my judgements and these days I'm feeling really cynical about a lot of things. I don't like leaving things half finished and like wise I don't like people who only put half of themselves into something. I think if everyone had something they were truly passionate about the world would be a better place.

Band Duties:

Guitar, vocals, writing music and lyrics.

Relevant Influences:

Nature, people and experiences. Northern metal/doom, progressive deathmetal, avant-garde and Black Metal.

Favourite band/s:

There's a long ever-changing list but some classic bands would be Anathema, Gojira, Opeth, Swallow the Sun, Neurosis, Kayo Dot, Dark Tranquillity, Converge, Meshuggah, Tenhi.

Favourite Snow song/s:

Sepia Rain, Tired and Behind the Stars.

Related Aspirations:

I Just want the right people to hear our music and be moved by it.

Life Philosophy:

Just don't try to be a hero but do what needs to be done. Admit to your faults and if you have qualities, people will see them without you having to flaunt them. I used to believe in Karma until I started being a good boy and shit things kept happening.

Favourite Beverage/s:

Moscow Mule, Henry Weston's Cider, Summer Lightening. All ftw.
